The mindbendingly complex game of Roman Warfare from Matrix Games, allowing you to recreate the great campaigns of the Roman Civil Wars in an almost painful level of excessive detail.
Alea Jacta Est is one of the few strategy games where the player must face the real dilemmas and challenges of the Romans during the time.
In Alea Jacta Est not only must you build and train armies, maneuver them and engage the enemy, but you must also maintain an economic and diplomatic balance with your neighbors, handle logistics, organise your armies into balanced formations, train generals and deal with a range of historically accurate and painstakingly researched debilitating illnesses and disfigurements all of which will be inflicted on you whilst playing the game, many if not all of which would normally be well within the gft of modern medicine to cure.
Using the successful and famous AGE engine, Alea Jacta Est covers the whole of Europe, Northern Africa, and part of Eastern Europe with a map split into a paltry 2,800 regions, complete with cities, roads, fortifications, weather effects, different types of block paving used in road construction and innumerable enemy and allied tribes and kingdoms, all of which have a significant effect on gameplay. Featuring 5 campaigns from 87 BC to 197 AD, hundreds of historical leaders and their pets, thousands of units and events, Alea Jacta Est is a must-have for any grand strategy fan.
