Last weekend I took part in a Malifaux event in Chessington - but was it a World of Adventures, or a Steaming Pile of a Shambles?
Read the 4 small yet perfectly formed match reports (yes, 4 games in one day - ouch!) of how my Arcanists (4 different masters in one day - ouch again!) took on Ten Thunders, including the new Asami Master, and Neverborn in a variety of high-octane tasks and challenges

Slate Ridge Mauler
Given the summer, painting and writing up match reports have taken a bit of a back seat to sitting in the garden and drinking imported session IPA whilst grilling chunks of chicken on the bbq.
However, in the midst of all of this excitement, a Malifaux monster, in the shape of the Slate Ridge Mauler has taken to the tabletop.
Mounted on a 50mm round base and pinned to a chip of actual slate (which was surprisingly easy to drill) he and his 4 arms are ready to appear sporadically when I next get in a game and want to try out what is often regarded as an under powered but potentially situationally useful model.
Grrrr!

Hairy Beasts in Deepest Bristol ...
Gertfaux, on the industrial outskirts of Bristol at Bristol Independent Gaming has seen my first ever Malifaux tournament just one year ago... and now I was back with Marcus, the King of the Jungle for a second year of Malifaux.
See how Marcus and the Beasts do against all comers in 4 short but sweet(corn) battle reports followed by Steampunk Hannibal in the analysis chair...

Painting Snowstorm
He's a big hairy Wendigo, trapped next to a Silent One.. and is sort of pivotal in many Rasputina crews, so me, like many others, have been waiting for this fella to come out in plastic for quite some time.
This is a walk-through of the challenges of assembling the model, and how I chose to paint him up.

Rebels & Rioters - a short Malifaux report
A three-game event at Dark Sphere, with all of the supposedly good players off at the Nationals in (un-flooded) York saw me yet again take the only faction I owned, Arcanists, out of the box and onto the table.
Much time has now passed since these games took place, and added to that the difficulty of taking sufficient photos during a game to make a proper narrative without wasting too much time means that the following report may owe much more to creative analysis of the pictures rather than what really happened…

Malifaux - the final Arcanist Crew, Colette and the Showgirls!
The 7th, and final, Arcanist crew has been released in plastic, and I've now painted it up. This involved a bit of innovative basing (for me), some cute use of mini magnets and a lot of flesh coloured paint as Colette and the Showgirls take to the stage for the first time!
See how they were painted, assembled and based in this painting walkthrough

Welcome to Croydon
In yet another impressive addition to my globetrotting gaming career, Croydon is added to the roll call of infamy in a 4-round fixed master Malifaux tournament.
Being in too much of a hurry to try and play the game to manage to remember to take a full set of photos, there are nevertheless some vaguely amusing captions here, and the beginnings of some analysis as well. A first for everything...
See how the Spider Man did in the reports

Random dents in the painting pile
Following on from my "shame myself" post about my rather eclectic lead pile, I've actually gotten off of Facebook, Yahoo Groups and every forum going and started painting some stuff again.
The rather random mix of "done" is presented for you here:
Here are a couple of sadly now discontinued elephants from Corvus Belli. My "Greek and Roman" elephants from Essex had gotten a bit aged and sad, and so when these came up at a fire-sale discount a year or so ago I jumped in to pick some up. Their predecessors may well be on sale in the Bring and Buy at Warfare I suspect...
A simple paint job, dry-brushing over black
I also picked up two Carthaginian elephants without howdahs - having never really had any like this before other than the odd one from Xyston, which is now a Generals element
And now for something totally different - a load of baggage and cargo, for obstacles for Malifaux to make my town look a little more lived-in
This is a mix of bits of barricade and luggage from Andy at Ainsty Castings and others. Some are multi-item castings, but at the back I have glued a few individual boxes together as well.
All of these should be clickable as larger photos

Darkfaux - another Malifaux event, this time with added Monkey's Ass!
Darkfaux, a one day 4 game Fixed Master event held in the heart of glamorous London town.
In a scruffy side street under a railway arch next to a car wash.
See Jungle King Marcus wobble, see monkeys wave their arms around ineffectually, see Pigs in armour, see dead dogs eating metal worms and understand how a big tree can be used as an offensive game piece!
Read the reports here
(there is more analysis from Steampunk Hannibal too.. )

Look! I built a Town!
Picking ridiculous projects and then almost finishing them is a classic wargamers curse, and the process of building a whole Malifaux faux-gothic-steampunk town almost from scratch instead of just coughing up for some pre-built buildings is a pretty good way of ticking that particular "curse" box, as I can now demonstrate with the following series of photos and construction hints and tips.

Ironsides crew for Malifaux
Toni Ironsides is the penultimate Arcanist Master to be added to my collection, and the crew box arrived on Saturday and was painted by Sunday lunchtime - you gotta love games where you have a small figure count!
The competed crew can be seen here, with some rather neat "magical aura" effects as well

Rasputina and Kaeris
Two more sets of eBay purchases, one of which was (mostly) painted and the other of which I did myself.... see Kaeris and Raspy added to my 3 existing Arcanist Crews for Malifaux!

Spring Showdown - Malifaux match reports
4 more almost incomprehensible Malifaux battle reports, with a big pink flying baby with a bad case of piles, hot chicks in leather with big swords, re-animating snipers in a childs playroom and a cast of thousands of mechanical spiders all creating confusion in deepest Essex.
The only thing you will probably recognise and understand is the crushing incompetence, the bitter taste of defeat and the withering analysis from Steampunk Hannibal

Gertfaux - a Malifaux Competition!
After almost 5 games ever, Mei Feng and her Rail Crew take to the competitive table at Gertfaux in Bristol!
It's all on the turn of a card as Giant Robots take on resurrected Irish Labourers, Little Green Men try to avoid falling into an industrial threshing machine, and a 4-legged man wearing a dress tries to avoid being run down by a big a metal horse with it's own colony of self-detaching sub-zero temperature haemorrhoids with bad attitudes.
There is also Steampunk Hannibal, and some silly captions. As if they were needed...

Mei the force be with you - Malifaux Battle Report
In the 2nd ever Malifaux report on this site, Evil Steampunk-magic-using Marxist Drug-runner Mei Feng takes on a man on a horse and his big fat Edward Scissorhands best friend in a strange urban cowboy landscape as two players struggle again to get to grips with what the hell they are up to ..
There is kung-fu, there are dogs and eagles, there is a Sikh with a machine gun and there is a lawyer (sending guns and money..?).
Who knows what it all means - but as long as everything gets set on fire, it will surely all be good in the end!

Xmas painting session for Malifaux
In between turkey and wine, I have snuck in painting up a few more Malifaux models over the past 2 weeks.
A lot of these are proxies from Black Scorpion.
Guild Guards
A shooter..
December Acolytes.
Many more on the website

A few more Malifaux proxies...
If you're going to be a Wild West Exorcist, why stop at just a crossbow... He also has a little of the Billy Bob Thornton character from Fargo about him. Which is probably not a good thing if you are about to be exorcised...
Joss is only available in a box set where I already have the other figures... so here's a £2 proxy
Home made mechanical toolbox from two 15mm/6mm drones
Brass Arachnid - another model only available in a box set I own already, scratchbuilt instead from drones.
An edited and cleaned up shot of the Exorcist
In my version of the fluff, Johan is actually a wise old union official... and may even be Kang's father...
Blokes in hats with guns.
There are plenty of them out there... Guild Guard anyone..?
I also now have auction listings for Malifaux figures, scraped off of eBay. Have a look here
